Frewen Hutcheson – Senior Data Engineer & Actuarial Analytics Consultant
Frewen joined Newtyne after graduating from the Newtyne Academy in 2012. He started as a Training Consultant, developing and delivering a comprehensive curriculum with an emphasis on programming and statistics/modelling. He rapidly advanced to become a Consultant and Technical Specialist, further honing his expertise in Python, PySpark, AWS, Jupyter Notebooks, DAGs, SAS, SQL, Power BI, Excel, and Teradata.
He is currently working as a Data Engineer at NatWest on a data migration and regulatory project.
Here is an insight into some of the earlier projects he has worked on.
Most Challenging Project:
Company: NatWest / RBS
Role: Junior Data Scientist / Python Developer / Financial Modeller
Date: January 2019 – March 2020
Technology: Python, AWS, Jupyter Notebooks, Pyspark
Project Overview:
Responsible for refreshing and improving the early repayment (loans) forecasting models in Python, Frewen’s work involved transitioning the existing polynomial model to a more accurate time series model, resulting in a 10% improvement in predictive power.
His tasks also included substantial data cleansing and quality improvements using Python and APACHE PySpark.
Additionally, Frewen played a key role in migrating the loans deterministic model from SAS to Python, showcasing his proficiency in multiple coding languages and statistical methodologies.
Why?
This project was the most challenging because role required not only being able to code in, interpret and formulate multiple coding languages (SAS, VBA, SQL, Python & Pyspark), but it also required mathematical and statistical knowledge alongside the ability to communicate findings and explain them at a high level to business SME’s.
